Inspiration: From OpenFront to Crusader Kings

Published on February 15, 2026

FeudalRush didn't just appear out of nowhere. It was born from a specific gap in the browser gaming market: the space between ultra-simple .io games and the overwhelming complexity of desktop grand strategy titles.

The openfront.io

I've spent countless hours on openfront.io. Its minimalist approach to territory control and real-time multiplayer combat is brilliant. I wanted to keep that "pick up and play" feeling—where you can jump into a game and be conquering within seconds.

The Crusader Kings Flavor

While I loved the speed of .io games, I missed the flavor of medieval politics. This is where Crusader Kings comes in. I wanted a game where alliances aren't just a gentleman's agreement, but a mechanic with mechanical weight—complete with prestige costs and the constant threat of betrayal.

The Result: FeudalRush

By combining the fast-paced expansion of OpenFront with a light layer of feudal diplomacy and prestige management inspired by Paradox games, I've created something unique. It's a game where your strategic decisions (who to ally with, which province to upgrade) matter just as much as your reaction speed in moving armies.

I hope you enjoy this blend of minimalism and depth as much as I enjoyed building it!
